It’s been 3 years since Square Enix has released Final Fantasy XIV’s award winning expansion, Endwalker, and 3 years since the conclusion of the Zodiark saga. With our story's initial chapter finally coming to a close, players have wondered what new horizons awaited us. That question was luckily answered however earlier this year in January where the new expansion trailer, Dawntrail, was revealed. Now knowing that our journey was going to sail us westward into the continent of Tural, players began to wonder what new seas awaited us.
Having information from our last patch content, alongside our reveal trailer, players are already anticipating a story filled with what everyone is affectionately calling their vacation arc. Setting forth into an adventure as we assist our new Hrothgar friend Wuk Lamat in her crown of succession rite, we will be taking on the form of a mentor type character as we help our new feline companion fight for the throne. Wanting to fight for the peace of her people, and become a ruler worthy of her fathers legacy, she reveals that there is a sibling however that cannot be allowed to rule, a mystery that we’ve been left to ponder.
With the new expansion finally being released, our warriors of light have sailed west through blue seas into the waters of Tural, docking in the beautiful city of Tuliyollal. Excited to show us her home, Wuk Lamat spared no time showing us the sights, taking us around the city and showing us all the newest and hottest spots. It’s not long however before business begins, and we’re whisked off to meet the current ruler of Tural, Gulool Ja Ja.
Being introduced into the other contestants in the rite of succession, we meet the first Promise, Zoraal Ja, who we then learn was the sibling Wuk Lamat did not want to rule. Being a warmonger, if he was to win the throne, Zoraal Ja desired to conquer Eorzea, our home nation we had just fought so long and hard to save. Now having even greater incentive to help Wuk Lamat, the rite has begun.
Needing to gather keystones, Wuk Lamat and the Warrior of Light are tasked with traveling around from place to place in Tural, where we meet the new colorful cultures of the Mamool Ja, Pelupelu, Yok Huy, Moblins, and Hanuhanu.
Finally able to take a break from the high-stakes scenarios of saving the world from warped gods and abominations, the players are allowed to lose themselves into lore and the New World that has been presented to us, now with incentive to not only see our friend succeed, but save our own home from potential invasion.
This expansion has been filled with an abundance of high and lows, full of wonderful adventure, wonder, and beautiful messages about life, death, and the power of memories. After the conclusion of the heartbreaking Zodiark saga, Tural truly was the breath of fresh air I as a player needed, and with the world it has built, a new foundation for future stories has been laid for the ready. We’ve only seen one part of the continent so far, and I already find myself looking forward to the chance to see more.
