Frankie Diane Mallis has done it again! In this thrilling sequel, we return to the world of the Lumerians and join forces with Lyriana as the stakes rise even higher.
Having made her choice to be a soldier, Lyr must continue to keep her head down as she navigates the political landscape around her. She must keep her enemies close as they plot against her, leaving her with few places to find solace in the place she calls home. Friend and foe seem to blend together as every choice could mean exposure, and what little allies remain are all Lyr can think of.
Building upon the foundations we already know, Frankie Diane Mallis develops more of the culture and lore surrounding Bamaria and the Lumerians. Her dedication to her craft shines true as the relationships between characters unfold in natural ways, following each individual journey of growth as the circumstances surrounding the characters unravel.
While the previous installment laid the foundation, Guardian of the Drowned Empire elaborates on the severity of what failure means. Tensions are high, and this steamy installment delivers on the promise of passion between upholding one’s oath and following one’s heart.
While I originally read this as part of the ARC team, it has stuck with me since then. Rarely do you find a second installment that is not only just as good as the first, but rivals it. If you fell in love with Daughter of the Drowned Empire, you’ll fall deeper still with Guardian of the Drowned Empire.
If you enjoyed the world-building, the characters, and the atmosphere of the story, it only gets better from here. Frankie’s brilliant use of language creates an intense world in which you can lose yourself. Tensions will rise, and every oath will be tested. You won’t want to miss this.
If you haven’t joined the ARC team yet, please consider it! It’s a great way to keep up with all the newest releases. You can also join the street team and get an inside look into the series as you help share it with friends, family, and colleagues.
